We’ve had a wonderful time! Loved your house and your hospitality–thank you! A couple of tips (for future guests): The two restaurants in Petty Harbour are superb! Ask Karen & Dave about Leo & Kimberley and go fishing with them–well worth the cost. Made lots of life-long memories here and would love a return trip.

Guests: John & Henny, Scotland, Ontario
Dates of stay: August 23–September 1, 2016
This place grew on us right from the start! David & Karen, thank you so much for your helpful hints on places to go. We certainly had a rest from our busy life and enjoyed the people, the view, and the food! Did a lot of hiking on the East Coast Trail experiencing the beauty of God’s creation. Getting to know you from just the short time we talked with you was very enjoyable. David, you have to get back into photography! We have some great photos we will send you and Karen. Your zest for life and talents were a real treat! Looking forward to coming back!

The rumours are true! Newfoundland is absolutely beautiful and the people are warm and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Nest. We enjoyed starting each day with a bowl of blueberries and yogourt, listening to the gulls and surf and watching the fishing boats return to the harbour. We could easily have spent our entire vacation here in Petty Harbour. Thank you Karen and David for providing such wonderful accommodations and welcoming us to your little piece of heaven.

Many thanks for your kind welcome to Petty Harbour, which has proved to be as beautiful and relaxing as we had hoped. This little Nest was a wonderful home for us during our stay, and we appreciated getting to see the “wee babby” as we missed our own! Good luck on your own upcoming trip.
“The view is spectacular and the location is perfect.”
Guests: Cathy & Steve, Bowmanville, Ontario
Dates of stay: August 1- 6 , 2016
We had a wonderful time while we stayed here. The view is spectacular and the location is perfect. We were close to all the attractions we wanted to see. While not exploring, we enjoyed watching the activity in the harbour and were fortunate enough to see some whales feeding. We loved the food at Chafe’s Landing. We went there 3 times! The fresh air and relaxed lifestyle certainly agreed with us. We hadn’t slept that well in a long time. We shared many photos of Petty Harbour and ShoreLark by the Sea on Facebook. I’m sure we have generated some future business for you. Thanks for a great stay.

“Beautiful place in Petty Harbour.”
Guests: Erika and Jon, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
Dates of stay: July 15-21, 2016
We recently stayed in the Upper Nest for a week and we loved it! Karen and David (thanks for the various recommendations!) have created a truly amazing home away from home that is spacious, clean, well appointed, and beautifully designed. The view from the deck is incredible, and we spent countless hours out there watching all of the activity in the harbour and soaking in the sights. Petty Harbour itself is small and quiet, but has a very good restaurant (Chafe’s Landing), a great coffee shop (watershed Coffee Shop), and easy access to two trailheads on the East Coast Trail (one of which is just a quick walk up the street from the Upper and Lower Nests). It is also close to St. John’s and offers easy access to points farther south. This was our first trip to Newfoundland and we loved it so much. What made the trip really special, though, was our stay in the Upper Nest. We highly recommend this!
“…a great base for us to see everything we wanted to see…”
Guests: Lori & Kay, Toronto Ontario
Dates of stay: July 16-23, 2016
Thank you for creating such a perfect home for us in this part of Newfoundland. It was a great base for us to see everything we wanted to see, but it was also a seductive home that constantly lured us to just sit and watch the boats, or in Kaz’s case, draw them! We cooked here most nights and found everything we needed. We also appreciated the laundry as we had been on the road for more than a week when we got here. Thanks for the perfect vacation spot.
P.S. A special shout out to David for the fresh cod. It was delicious!
“Thank you for a fabulous stay at your beautiful seaside house!”
Guests: Annette, Ken, Brianna, Kyra, Guelph Ontario
Dates of stay: July 17–20, 2016
Thank you for a fabulous stay at your beautiful seaside house! This is a wonderful little town. We also really enjoyed meeting and playing with your little MacIntosh!
• Make sure you go out cod jigging! Great way to see the wildlife (dolphins, whales, eagles, puffins) and catch a yummy dinner! Fisherman Ronnie took us out from the harbour, he and his crew were brilliant!
• Campfire at Topsail Beach
• Visit the Mini Aquarium (great for a rainy day) –touch-tanks with various ocean specimens– fun for kids!
“We loved every minute of it–even the rain and fog.”

I can’t believe 10 days can go so fast! Thank you for a fantastic stay! We loved every minute of it–even the rain and fog (not so much the cold though).
Thoughts for future visitors:
• Go whale watching with Captain Wayne – Bay Bulls
• Go sea kayaking with Stan Cook
• Eat wild blueberries at Cape Spear
• Visit the fossils at Mistaken Point
• See the birds at Cape St. Mary’s – even if it is foggy!
• Stop at the Five Islands Art Gallery (just before Ferryland)

“thank you Karen and David for creating Shorelark by the Sea.”
Guests: Michelle & Robert, Jordan Station, Ontario
Dates of stay: June 16–22, 2016
Petty Harbour and its’ people are beautiful inside and out. Went zip lining (longest in North America); was NEVER on my bucket list…but I put it on so I could check it off, (and a beautiful spot to leave my son’s ashes). We met the seal on the boat launch and named her Georgette. The highlight was Rob meeting your wonderful neighbours and overindulging in lobster…(Thanks, Steve and Amanda!). One of our best vacations–thank you Karen and David for creating Shorelark by the Sea. #greathosts #beautifulviews #friendlypeople #vegetarianeatslobster&cod
Hi Michelle & Rob: We’re happy to learn you found a resting place in Petty Harbour for your son (and sad to learn that you had to); and yes, neighbours Steven and Amanda are, as we say in Newfoundland, “best kind”! Karen+David

Thank you so much for arranging for us to stay at Shorelark by the Sea Lower Nest. Your place is amazing! Everything we needed and more! The place is decorated and appointed to give a relaxing, serene, calm place to come back to after a day of sight-seeing. We absolutely loved looking out over the harbour from the deck–and the wind when the wind was howling. Your attention to detail shows in every touch–loved the bedroom light fixture! We will definitely recommend this place to anyone travelling to Petty Harbour.
“We enjoyed staying in an actual fishing village…perfectly situated and perfectly charming.”
Guests: Linda & John, Hallowell, Maine, USA
Dates of stay: May 24–29, 2016
Shorelark by the Sea is aptly named. This is a cozy and well-supplied nest with a captivating view of the harbor and the rocky cliffs. We enjoyed staying in an actual fishing village–meeting and talking with members of the community and fellow travellers to the area. Everyone we met was friendly and informative. In addition to enjoying the immediate area, we were easily able to explore out-lying areas, returning to ‘nest’ for a peaceful nights’ rest–perfectly situated and perfectly charming.
“Thanks again for another lovely stay here…You guys have built a really lovely spot…”
Guests: Josh and Suzie, Prince Edward County, Ontario
Dates of stay: May 22–25, 2016
Thanks again for another lovely stay here at Shorelark. We feel so at home here, and couldn’t ask for a better place to get away from the hectic life back in Ontario. Someday we will bring our 3 girls so they can share in our love of this beautiful landscape. You guys have built a really lovely spot here and we thank you for opening it up for us to experience the best of Newfoundland. Cheers and all the best to you until we see each other again (maybe next year!)
(Josh and Suzie got some great photos– two seals and a whale just outside the harbour, and icebergs! Check them out here:
