We had such a great stay–the perfect relaxing vacation before the craziness of the Folk Festival*. A piece of Canadian Paradise! David, thanks for the tunes. Karen, thanks for the bath salts.

*Eric’s band, ‘The Fretless‘ were well received at the Folk festival, check them out!

Guests: Joanne, Dale, Abbey, & Morgan, Fredericton, New Brunswick
Dates of stay: July 31–Aug. 2, 2017
Thanks so much for the beautiful accommodations. We have really enjoyed our stay here. For such a little town there is so much to do! We took in the zip line, whale watching with Captain Wayne and supper two nights in a row at Chafe’s. We have had a wonderful time in our short stay–but would love to come back sometime! This is a beautiful place to come back to at the end of the day! Thanks for everything!

What a beautiful, picturesque little fishing village on the sea. We enjoyed out stay and took many pictures. Shorelark by the Sea is so quaint and cozy. We loved it here! Be sure to read Alan Doyle’s book while looking at the harbour. It comes to life!

We have rented throughout North America and Europe. This unit is definitely in our top 3! The sights, sounds and relaxation are first class. Close to everything. The owners are delightful and helpful. This is a ‘must stay’ while in Newfoundland.

“…you have thought of everything possible to make your guests’ stay enjoyable…”
Guests: Juli, Mike, & Ford, Taylor, British Columbia
Dates of stay: July 21–July 31, 2017
Dave & Karen, you have thought of everything possible to make your guests’ stay enjoyable, from the decor and bedding to the coffee and spices. So glad we were able to stay with you!! Petty Harbour and its’ people are beautiful and while being close to St. John’s and tourist attractions was great, the best days we had were when we didn’t leave. For future guests, the must-do things are: going out fishing with Leo and Kimberly at Fishing for Success, music and food at Chafe’s Landing (make a reservation), coffee and cakes at the little coffee shop on the wharf, the craft/souvenir section at Bidgood’s just a few miles up the road, as well as their local foods (moose sausage, etc.), Herbie’s Olde Shoppe just down the block, packed full of items from local artisans and authors, O’Brien’s whale and puffin tours out of Bay Bulls. Hubby made it out to the East Coast Trail once and enjoyed the spectacular views & we all made it to the North lookout from which you could see both Petty Harbour and Maddox Cove. We look forward to visiting again. Loved our time here with our super-hosts! Thanks for everything, Dave and Karen! 🙂

“Petty Harbour is so convenient to get to the many places of interest. ”
Guests: Brian and Anne, Campbell River, B.C.
Dates of stay: July 21–July 31, 2017
Sorry to be leaving! We’ll miss the friendly hosts–Dave & Karen. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our too-short visit to Newfoundland. Petty Harbour is so convenient to get to the many places of interest. Whale and bird watching is fantastic! Fishing with Leo is a joy! The whales and birds to be seen with O’Brien’s! And don’t forget to be ‘screeched in’! It’s just fun. Thank you Dave and Karen for a beautiful place to stay.

“As for the Upper Nest –wish our home was as well thought out– everything we needed for our stay and more.”
Guests:
Ken & Tracey, Burlington, Ontario
Dates of stay: July 27–29, 2017
The word for our stay in Petty Harbour and the Upper Nest: serendipity. Not finding a place to stay in St. John’s, so instead a little further. And what a find– a perfect base for our adventures on the peninsula– from sunrise over the harbour, through our count-the-whales sightings, to the peacefulness of the evening–pink skies over the bluff reflecting on the water! As for the Upper Nest –wish our home was as well thought out– everything we needed for our stay and more. Thanks so much to Karen (for directing us when the GPS didn’t!) and David for the overview of the must see and do’s!

“We loved our days in Petty Harbour.”
Guests: Chris, Mark, Joe, Lass
Dates of stay: July 18–21, 2017
Your Guest House was a great option for us, thank you for the offer. We loved our days in Petty Harbour–the whales, the trails, the people–the fresh cod!–and an extra-fun evening our last night!

“Staying here was “definitely not camping”…
Guests: Dave & Arlene, Toronto, Ontario
Dates of stay: July 19–21, 2017
Staying here was “definitely not camping” with all the thoughtful decor. We did most of the things one can in Petty Harbour except fishing, which gives us a reason to return. Art O’Brien of the Navigators had us all singing “Down in Petty Harbour” last night at Chafe’s. Great fun! Note to future residents: read Alan Doyle’s biography about growing up here, it’s a real treat. Good luck, Karen and David, and all the best.

“Thank you for all the helpful notes, the coffee, the spices, the fluffy towels, comfy bed, and the pristine clean accommodations.”
Guests: Rick & Joan, Chater, Manitoba
Dates of stay: July 11–20, 2017
When I happened upon your Shore Lark ‘Nests’ in Petty Harbour on the internet when planning our trip, I thought it would be the perfect spot to stay and it didn’t disappoint. The thoughtfulness put into the design and all the special touches was over the top to make our Lower Nest a very comfortable ‘home’ away from home. Newfoundland is so beautiful and we hope to return some day. Thank you, David, for mentioning the sunrise at Cape Spear, the highlight of my time here. So much history in this area and beautiful natural wonder. We were so fortunate the weather was perfect during our stay. Petty Harbour: the perfect setting for a perfect holiday. We do want to come back and venture to the western part of the province, but we have to fit in some time in Petty Harbour and enjoy your Shore Lark by the Sea ‘Lower Nest’ again.
Thank you for all the helpful notes, the coffee, the spices, the fluffy towels, comfy bed, and the pristine clean accommodations. We will never forget our special time here.
P.S.: Thanks for the toffee, so good!

“The unit itself was adorable and felt like home.”
Guests: Karen & Mark, Morrisburg, Ontario
Dates of stay: June 29–July 5, 2017
We enjoyed our stay at the Lower Nest immensely. It was a great perch for watching the waves and fishing boats roll into the harbour while listening to the call of the seagulls. The amazing view and vistas were breath-taking and the smell of the clear, fresh air indescribable. The unit itself was adorable and felt like home. Lots to see and do. We also booked a taxi from Red & Yellow for a flat rate of $25 to go into St. John’s. We are now official Newfoundlanders after our Screech-In ceremony hosted by Terry at Trapper John’s on George St. Terry was very entertaining and it was a fun, worthwhile trip! Thank you so much of helping to make our stay in Newfoundland unforgettable. You are both very gracious hosts and we leave with the fondest of memories. Thanks again.
P.S. Hope to return one day 🙂

Thanks for providing the perfect ‘Nest’ for our first time to Newfoundland. We loved every moment of our touring all the beautiful coves and harbours. We loved coming here at the end of the day as your ‘Nest’ and Petty Harbour seem to hold the very best of all we took in. We were blessed with great people, great views, large and small icebergs, whales, puffins, and great food–and nice photos and remembrances to take home. We appreciate the great outfitting of this perfect ‘Nest’ and all the good information along the way. Praying God’s best to you in your adventures. In Jesus’ love, Elise and Ted.

We love this place–the view is spectacular, the Nest is so comfortable and well-equipped. We really enjoyed our hikes and other outings, and coming back here to cook and enjoy the view was a real treat. So glad we booked a whole week. We appreciated your great directions to the Nests plus all the other details–tea, coffee, spices. We too read Alan Doyle’s book– well, John read it and relayed many of the tales to me as we sat on the deck looking out to sea. Great fun! Thanks for everything.

“…a million times better than a hotel room…”
Guests: Karin & Ed, London, Ontario
Dates of stay: June 10–12, 2017
ShoreLark by the Sea is a million times better than a hotel room–there is no way that we could have felt this comfortable, even at the best of hotels. We were so lucky to have found this place and Petty Harbour. We’ve seen some truly amazing views and walked some incredible trails, but one of my favourite memories will be reading Alan Doyle’s book about growing up in Petty Harbour *, aloud to my husband as we sipped a glass of wine and looked out our window at the harbour itself. Priceless!
* This is also an audiobook, read by Alan himself, which I think might be even more entertaining than reading it! David

“The place is absolutely stunning with all the small personal touches that we didn’t know we needed…”
Guests: John and Nicole, Ottawa, Ontario
Date of stay: May 21, 2017
Karen and David: John & I spent a day and a half hiking from St. John’s to Petty Harbour with 50 lb. and 30 lb. packs respectively. Although the trip has been absolutely breath-taking, by the time we happened upon your gorgeous town we were more than ready for a hot meal, warm shower, and rest. After eating 4 big meals at Chafe’s Landing, I called Karen. Despite our request being impromptu you both arranged for us to stay. We can’t thank you enough! The place is absolutely stunning with all the small personal touches that we didn’t know we needed: laundry detergent, tea, instructions on everything–you’ve done an incredible job of making this rest stop our favourite and what we anticipate will be our best. Thank you for this unique and special experience!
